Town of Nováky

The Town of Nováky is located in the centre of the Hornonitrianska valley. It is situated 140 km away from Bratislava and forms part of the Trenčín Self-Governing Region. The first written mention about Nováky dates back to 1113 and is recorded in the Zobor Document of the Zobor Abbey.

The Town of Nováky is the most industrial town of the Upper Nitra Region. It has chemical industry – Novácke chemické závody a.s., energy industry – ENEL Elektráreň Nováky, and mining industry – Hornonitrianske bane.

At present, Nováky is a small, but attractive and clean, and absolutely native-Slovak town with approximately five thousand inhabitants. There are a few athletic clubs in Nováky which have made considerable achievements in Slovakia, especially in water-polo and canoe. The water-polo players´ team is the multi-champion of Slovakia. The canoeists have achieved considerable results at the European and world level.

The citizens and tourists can spend their free time visiting the swimming hall, the National Water Polo Centre, sports facilities, the town park, or fishing and rowing on the lake or visiting a cultural programme in the cultural centre.
